This chapter provides an overview of the Telnet protocol and general configuration information for the terminal emulation portion of TCP/Connect II for Macintosh.
ツ Telnet is the Network Virtual Terminal protocol in the
Internet suite of protocols. Telnet allows you to log into a
remote host from your local computer and interact as a local
user of that remote host.
3.1 Establishing a Telnet Connection
The procedure for establishing a Telnet session is virtually identical for all types of emulation supported in TCP/Connect II for Macintosh.
To establish a session:
1. Choose Terminal窶ヲ from the Services menu.
竏 The Open a Terminal Session dialog is displayed.
2. In the Session Name field, enter the host or session to connect
to.
OR
Choose a host from the Session Name pop-up menu.
3. In the Window Name field, enter a name for your session
window. This field is optional. The session name is used if
you leave this field blank.
4. Click OK. (Or click Cancel to close the dialog without
establishing a terminal session.)
竏 A Telnet window opens, and the menu bar expands to
include the Terminal menu.
5. Enter your login name and password in the Telnet window
when you are prompted.
3.1.1 Using Saved Sets
Saved sets are available for DEC, IBM, and Tektronix emulation sessions. Saved sets are convenient because you can double-click an icon to establish a connection to a frequently-used session.
To create a saved set:
1. With a terminal session open, define all parameters that you want
stored in the saved set.
2. Choose Save Set窶ヲ from the File menu.
竏 Apple窶冱 standard Save dialog is displayed.
3. Select the location to save the set to.
4. Enter a name for the saved set in the Save 窶牢aved Set窶 As field.
5. Click Save. (Or click Cancel to close the dialog without saving
the saved set.)
竏 The saved set is stored as a file in the location you selected.
To use a saved set to open a terminal connection:
1. Double-click the saved set file.
